TheIndonesia.co - Indramayu Regent Lucky Hakim recently faced scrutiny over his trip to Japan, which he took without proper authorization from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) or the West Java Governor. On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, he met with Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto to address the situation and offer his apology.

According to Suara.com, the trip came under investigation by the Kemendagri's Inspectorate General, as local leaders are required to obtain approval before traveling abroad, especially during significant periods such as the Lebaran holiday when the Ministry is busy handling essential affairs. Lucky Hakim clarified that he had not sought permission, mistakenly believing that the rule only applied during working days, not during holidays.

Bima Arya used the meeting as an opportunity to remind all regional leaders of their responsibilities.

"The role of a local leader requires full attention, and any lack of understanding about government processes can lead to serious issues," he said. He also stressed that the incident with Lucky Hakim should serve as a learning experience for other officials.

Kemendagri Minister Tito Karnavian had previously discussed the rules surrounding travel for public servants at a retreat for local leaders, emphasizing that any travel abroad, regardless of timing or holiday periods, requires approval. This misstep highlighted the need for regional leaders to better grasp the regulations, including the consequences for violating them.

The Ministry is now planning to hold a special meeting with regional officials to further clarify these rules and the government's programs. Bima Arya urged leaders, including Lucky Hakim, to study the regulations more carefully and understand the serious implications of any future violations.

Lucky Hakim acknowledged his mistake and apologized, not only to the people of Indramayu but to all Indonesians, recognizing that his failure to seek proper approval was an oversight.

"I failed to understand the importance of following the correct procedures, and I sincerely apologize for this mistake," he admitted.

As investigations continue, the Kemendagri Inspectorate General will finalize its findings and present the official decision within the next 14 days.
