TheIndonesia.co - The Jakarta Transportation Office has announced plans to manage the anticipated surge in visitors to the city’s popular tourist destinations on the second day of Eid al-Fitr 2025. With the holiday period approaching, the office is preparing for high traffic at key locations such as Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Ragunan Zoo, Kota Tua (Old Town area), National Monument (Monas), Ancol, and the emerging Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area. These locations are expected to see large crowds as residents of Jakarta and visitors from other regions flock to the city’s attractions during the extended holiday.
According to Antara News Agency, Jakarta Transportation Office head, Syafrin Liputo, highlighted the importance of preparing for this expected influx of visitors starting from April 1.
"We need to anticipate the crowds that will head to popular spots like Taman Mini, Ragunan, and Ancol. These areas are prime tourist locations, and they are especially popular during holidays like Eid," Liputo explained.
He stressed the need for a well-coordinated plan to handle the crowds and ensure smooth access to these destinations, which are among Jakarta's most beloved spots for family outings, cultural visits, and leisure activities.
Among the prime tourist spots is Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), a cultural park that showcases Indonesia’s rich diversity. It features replicas of traditional houses from across the archipelago, as well as museums and a large-scale miniature of Indonesia’s diverse flora and fauna.
Another highlight is Ragunan Zoo, home to hundreds of species and offering educational experiences for children and families. The Batavia Old Town or Kota Tua area, is a historical hub of Jakarta, with colonial-era buildings and museums, offering a glimpse into the city's past.
At the heart of Jakarta’s tourism is Monas (National Monument), a symbol of Indonesia’s independence. Visitors can ascend the monument for panoramic views of the capital city.
The Ancol area provides entertainment for all ages, including a theme park, water park, and beautiful beaches for relaxation. The PIK area has seen rapid development in recent years, attracting visitors for its beach resorts, shopping centers, and vibrant nightlife.
To tackle the anticipated traffic challenges, Liputo revealed a detailed traffic management strategy.
"We have coordinated with the police and military to help manage the flow of vehicles around these tourist sites," he said. As part of this plan, a one-way traffic system will be implemented towards Ragunan Zoo from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. local time, and in the afternoon, the one-way system will be reversed to manage the flow of vehicles exiting Ragunan towards the TB Simatupang area.
The transportation office is also prepared to make adjustments in real-time, responding to any congestion that may occur.
"For example, if traffic becomes heavy around Ancol, we will regulate access to the toll roads leading to the area by restricting entry and exit points. We want to minimize traffic jams and provide smoother access for visitors," Liputo explained.
Another major destination in Jakarta during the Eid holiday is Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), an increasingly popular coastal area known for its modern dining and shopping venues, as well as its beach resorts.
"PIK usually experiences a large number of visitors during long weekends and national holidays, and we expect the same for this Eid," Liputo added.
The area has become a prime spot for family gatherings and outings due to its unique blend of coastal attractions and urban development.
To ensure that traffic management runs smoothly, approximately 2,800 personnel from the Jakarta Transportation Office will be deployed throughout the city during the Eid holiday period. In addition to personnel from the transportation office, the police, military, and the Public Security and Order Agency (Satpol PP) will also assist with crowd control and traffic management. The joint effort is aimed at creating a safe and efficient experience for both locals and tourists.
Liputo urged visitors to adapt to the situation and be mindful of the traffic management measures in place. He encouraged the public to consider using alternative routes when necessary and to be flexible in their travel plans.
"By working together, we can ensure that everyone has a pleasant experience at Jakarta’s tourist destinations during the Eid holiday," he concluded.
As the city gears up for an influx of visitors, Jakarta’s diverse tourist spots will undoubtedly offer an array of experiences for those looking to enjoy the holiday season in the capital.
