TheIndonesia.co - Indonesia’s state-owned Bali International Hospital (BIH) has brought in four prominent cancer specialists from Singapore as part of its strategy to deliver world-class healthcare services.
“The launch of BIH brings together global standards, Indonesian expertise, and Balinese hospitality,” said Dewi Fankhuningdyah Fitriana, CEO of PT Pertamedika Bali Hospital, the company operating the facility, according to Antara News Agency.
The four doctors—Dr. Robert Lim, Dr. Francis Chin Kuok Choon, Dr. Patricia Kho Sunn Sunn, and Dr. Tan Yew Oo—have received licenses to practice at BIH. The hospital is expected to officially open in May.
They will collaborate with Indonesian experts, including vascular surgeon Dr. Rio Marnoto, who has 24 years of experience in Germany.
Currently in its early operational phase, BIH offers services in oncology, cardiology, emergency care, outpatient clinics, radiology, radiotherapy, and comprehensive medical checkups. More specialties will be added before the official inauguration in June.
Located in the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the 67,000-square-meter hospital features 255 beds, eight operating rooms, 38 ICU beds, and four laboratories. BIH is positioned as a key destination for medical tourism and healthcare referrals, both locally and internationally.
Fitriana said BIH is expected to enhance Indonesia’s healthcare standards and support the local economy.
The National SEZ Council estimates that by 2030, 4–8% of Indonesians who currently seek medical treatment abroad (roughly 123,000 to 240,000 people) may opt for domestic care, including at Sanur SEZ. By 2045, the hospital could help save up to Rp86 trillion (around US$4.9 billion) in foreign exchange and generate an additional Rp19.6 trillion in earnings.
