Local Artists, Communities to Perform at Ubud & Beyond Festival

TheIndonesia.co - Local artists and communities will perform at Ubud & Beyond Festival that will be held on August 24-28 at Astina Field in Gianyar, Bali.

Founder Tjokorda Gede Bayuputra Sukawati said the festival will become a platform for local artists to bring back their performances after the majority of art exhibitions were halted during the COVID-19 pandemic. And the event also seeks to introduce local art and culture to visitors.

“Ubud & Beyond Festival will be the spearhead and stage for artists and cultural professionals to see how far innovation has developed by showcasing their latest works,” Sukawati said on Tuesday, August 23, as reported by Antara.

This year’s edition of the festival will also pay homage to Balinese choreographer I Nyoman Cerita who passed away last year.

It will also pay homage to young illustrator whose works are globally famous Dewa Gede Raka Jana Nuraga.

The appreciation for the two artists, Sukawati said, shows that culture continues to develop yet remains rooted.

Among artists who will perform at the festival are Selonding Bentuyung, Napak Tuju, Sanggar Tedung Agung, Ayu Ananta, Sanggar Bingin Mas, WDPK Dance, Swaradanta, Kertha Art, Tala Jiwa, Taru Art, Gambelan Suling Gita Semara, and Fire Dance by Jiro.

Musicians Balawan Ethnic Fusion, Alffy Rev feat. Novia, Di Ubud Band, and Unb’rocken were also announced as performers.

Sukawati lastly expressed hope that the free Ubud & Beyond Festival 2022 will attract Balinese as well as domestic and international tourists to witness the works of local artists and understanding local culture.

“Visitors can enjoy performance while also trying and experiencing foods and beverages from more than 60 restaurants and SMEs in Ubud that will be present at the festival,” he concluded.
