TheIndonesia.co - Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron will undertake a state visit to Indonesia in May 2025.
According to Antara News Agency, the upcoming visit was one of the key topics discussed during a bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers in Jakarta on Wednesday. Minister Sugiono shared that they had reviewed preparations for the visit and outlined priority actions to strengthen relations between the two nations.
"We focused on preparations for President Macron's visit and identified steps to enhance cooperation between our countries," Minister Sugiono said during a joint press statement after the meeting.
Key areas for collaboration between Indonesia and France were highlighted, including energy transition, food security, defense, digital transformation, and cultural exchange.
Sugiono also mentioned the positive performance of French investments in Indonesia, which reached US$328 million in 2024, with expectations for further growth in the coming years.
Both countries expressed their commitment to boosting investment in sectors such as renewable energy, critical minerals, creative economy, logistics, transportation, and green infrastructure.
The foreign minister expressed confidence that the ongoing and future cooperation between the two countries would yield meaningful outcomes for both nations and further solidify their bilateral ties, especially with President Macron's upcoming visit.
"We aim for results that are tangible, impactful, and involve all relevant stakeholders," Sugiono emphasized.
President Macron had first conveyed his intention to visit Indonesia during his meeting with Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid at the AI Action Summit in Paris last February.
This visit will be the first state visit by a French leader to Indonesia since 2011 when former French Prime Minister François Fillon and then-President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono held talks in Jakarta.
